COMMENT: Now, GMO particulates will be part of the ingredients in vaccines. These people are Mad Scientists...."because we can, we will." Humans are NOT experiments to be tinkered with for profit. Generations to come will reap the horrors of manipulated DNA in humans and food.
August 16, 2006 - Gene-Altered Crops Denounced - Environmental Groups Seek Moratorium on Open-Air Tests (requires registration) - Washington Post - "In a toughly worded 52-page decision released without fanfare late last week, a U.S. District judge in Hawaii concluded that USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), which grants permits for the planting of genetically engineered crops, should have first investigated whether the plants posed a threat to any of that state's hundreds of endangered species. The corn and sugar cane plants, already harvested because the experiments involving them were completed before the case was decided, had been modified to produce human hormones, drugs and ingredients for vaccines against AIDS and hepatitis B."

ATHENS: In this famously fractious country, there is one thing on which almost all Greeks agree: They do not want genetically modified crops grown, sold or eaten here.In 2004, the Parliament passed a national ban, but the European Union rejected it as an illegal trade barrier. Since then, all 54 Greek prefectures have passed local bans, testing international regulations and patience. "All political parties are opposed to GMOs, which is odd because we disagree on everything else," said Theodore Koliopanos, a legislator and former deputy environment minister.
In much of Europe, genetically modified foods are so unpopular that some main stream supermarket giants will not stock them. In surveys, consumers and many experts - not just organic farmers and environmental groups - emerge unconvinced that GMOs are safe, particularly for the environment.

April 6, 2006: Ethical Corporation: By Invitation - Debate: Genetically modified food and the WTO ruling - Let them eat precaution: What the.. Every activity involves risk. Conventional farmers use chemicals that have unknown long-term consequences. Should we ban conventionally grown foods? People die and fall ill eating organic foods caused by fecal contamination from dung “ a 'natural' fertilizer. Should we remove these products from the shelves? We are not about to stop vaccinating infants because of the unfounded fear that inoculations cause harm. Do we really want to make profound decisions not on the basis of what we know but on the basis of what we do not know?

March 2006 - Novel Foods to Treat Food Allergy and Gastrointestinal Infection. - journal article (Current Allergy and Asthma Reports) - "Novel strategies are being explored to modulate the gut mucosal immune system by altering protein _expression in food. Crops are being developed to remove deleterious allergens to prevent immunogenic exposure while preserving nutritional quality. Local food plants that express protein fragments of pathogens might provide an effective means to stimulate gut mucosal immunity while increasing vaccine accessibility."

COMMENT: Once the pollen of GM crops is released into the environment and the seeds are imbedded into the food supply, the consequences are both unpredictable and unknown. Once GM grains have contaminated the entire planet, the companies that own the patents on the crops will be able to enforce their patent rights, claiming rights to to the land where the crops were grown. The precedent has already been set by this case in Canada.
May 21, 2004: CBC News: Biotech giant wins Supreme Court battle The Supreme Court of Canada ruled against a Saskatchewan farmer Friday, saying since U.S. biotechnology giant Monsanto holds a patent on a gene in its canola seed, it can control the use of the plant. In a 5-4 decision, the court upheld Monsanto's patent over its Roundup Ready canola plant gene, ruling Percy Schmeiser infringed on the company's patent by growing the plant without a licence. Schmeiser argued the canola seed blew onto his property from a nearby farm. He has said the plants "polluted" his fields.
